Are Lumineers Right for You?
Are you looking for an easy way to brighten your smile and correct cosmetic flaws? If the answer is yes, and you don’t want to go through the discomfort and time it takes to place veneers, Lumineers may be the answer. Patients who have had Lumineers placed at our Wilmington office are amazed at how quickly they see the results.
Lumineers are a quick, painless option for people who are looking to improve their smiles with veneers. Traditional veneers take longer to place and involve shaving of your teeth that can be uncomfortable for many people. Lumineers, on the other hand, can easily be placed in just two visits.
Sometimes referred to as indirect or no-prep veneers, Lumineers can be used to correct a number of dental imperfections, from misalignment and gaps to severe staining and worn enamel. Since they are so versatile and produce such beautiful results, veneers are one of the most popular treatments we offer.
What are Lumineers?
An indirect veneer is a super-thin layer of porcelain material which is custom fitted and placed on a tooth using a special bonding agent. The veneers themselves are created to our exact specifications in a special dental lab using impressions of your actual teeth. Each veneer is made specifically to fit your tooth or teeth perfectly.
Lumineers are completely safe and are less invasive than most other treatment options, such as crowns or implants, because they are placed directly over your existing tooth structure. With a custom-fit, no-prep veneer, we can create the appearance of a perfectly shaped tooth that brightens your smile and blends seamlessly with surrounding teeth.
What is the Procedure Like?
An indirect veneer requires only two easy visits to our Wilmington dental office. During the first appointment we will take impressions of your teeth that will be sent off to the lab. This procedure takes only a few minutes and is not at all painful.
A few weeks later, your Lumineers will be finished and you will return for the final step – placing the veneer. With indirect veneers we only need to remove a small amount of your tooth enamel – about the thickness of a contact lens. These thin veneers are attached to the teeth using dental cement, and you will leave the office the same day with a beautiful new smile.
Are Lumineers Durable?
The advantage of Lumineers, which are made of porcelain, is that they closely resemble the natural shine of your own dental enamel. This quality also makes them durable and highly resistant to staining and discoloration.
You do need to make an effort to avoid biting down on any hard or crunchy foods like nuts that can chip or crack your veneer. If you grind your teeth, we may need to look for other cosmetic solutions that will withstand the excess force. With proper care, however, your Lumineers should last for many years.
