At Bruce E. Matthews, DDS, we offer our patients the latest and safest in dental x-ray technology. This means digital x-rays, which are safer and provide our dentist with the clearest images to help customize your treatment plan.

Digital x-rays, unlike traditional or previous-era x-rays, rely on a small unobtrusive sensor to take clear pictures of your teeth and gums. These images go directly to our computer where they can be manipulated and turned to give the dentist a clearer view.

The images are stored electronically. This provides us with an accurate and continuous dental history for each patient.

There are several reasons why it’s important to get regular digital x-rays in our Wilmington, DE dental office. Let’s look at a few of these reasons.

Digital X-Rays for Comparison

A general dentist is always on the lookout for oral changes. For example, if you have a wisdom tooth that has shown no signs of eruption, ongoing x-rays can alert the dentist to changes with this tooth or surrounding teeth. Has this tooth shifted? Is there a chance it could encroach on other teeth?

Proactive Care Is Crucial

You may have a small cavity, underlying dental infection, or another potentially serious oral issue that has yet to cause pain. During your routine dental exam, it’s important for the dentist to assess infections or other problems that may be hiding under the gum line.

Digital X-Rays Are Safe

Digital x-rays reduce radiation exposure by up to 90 percent compared with standard dental radiography. This technology also eliminates the need for second x-ray attempts because it is more accurate and efficient than past x-ray technology.
